Cyst Removal: At a Glance

What does Cyst Removal treat?

Epidermoid cysts, pilar cysts, lipomas, and recurrent inflamed cysts.

How does Cyst Removal work?

Under local anesthesia, the entire cyst and its wall are removed through a small incision and closed with fine sutures.

How long is a Cyst Removal session?

30–45 minutes

What is the downtime after Cyst Removal?

Sutures out in 7–14 days; strenuous activity avoided for 1 week.

When will I see results from Cyst Removal?

Healing over 2–4 weeks; final scar maturation at 6–12 months.

How much does Cyst Removal cost in Tampa?

$500–$1,200 per lesion.
Type I

Epidermal Cysts

The most common type. A keratin-filled sac that grows slowly beneath the skin. Complete excision prevents recurrence.

Type II

Pilar Cysts

Found primarily on the scalp. These smooth, firm cysts are easily removed through a small incision with excellent cosmetic results.

Type III

Inflamed Cysts

When a cyst becomes infected or ruptures internally, it requires immediate treatment. We may drain first, then excise once inflammation resolves.

Clinical Standard

Complete Capsule Removal.

Unlike drainage alone, which provides only temporary relief, our approach involves removing the entire cyst capsule. This is the only way to prevent recurrence. Our board-certified surgeons perform these procedures under local anesthesia with cosmetic surgery closure techniques to minimize scarring.

Definitive Clearance. We treat all types of cutaneous cysts: epidermal inclusion cysts, pilar (trichilemmal) cysts, and dermoid cysts. Each is surgically removed through a minimal incision, with the capsule dissected intact to ensure complete clearance.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked.

Can a cyst go away on its own?

No. Cysts are enclosed by a capsule that must be surgically removed to prevent regrowth. They may fluctuate in size but will not resolve spontaneously.

Is cyst removal painful?

No. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia. You will be completely numb during the excision.

Will the cyst come back after removal?

When the entire capsule is removed, recurrence is rare. Incomplete removal (drainage only) has a high recurrence rate.

How long is the recovery?

Most patients return to activity immediately. Sutures are removed in 7-14 days depending on the location and size.
